Thursday 18 October: 8:00pm - 10:00pm

Trinity College, Chapel, Trinity Street, CB2 1TQ

The collection known as the Andreas Bach Buch originated with JS Bach's older brother, Johann Christoph, in whose household the boy Sebastian grew up following the death of both their parents. (Johann Christoph's son Andreas inherited the collection, giving it the name we know it by today.)

Johann Christoph has been a pupil of Pachelbel, whose music is well represented in the collection, but the quantity and diversity of music is considerable; Sebastian received a thorough training from his brother, and he subsequently himself contributed to the collection.

This programme is based around four major works from the Andreas Bach Buch, all based on an ostinato theme - the Buxtehude Passacaglia, Pachelbel Ciacona, Fischer Chaconne and JS Bach's Passacaglia.
