Friday 25 October: 5:00pm - 6:45pm
Cambridge University Library, Milstein Seminar Rooms, West Road, CB3 9DR
How can we recover and represent the hidden histories of women’s waged labour in the home? Was home-work emancipatory for women, or a mark of their inferior position in the labour market? Can a visual medium like photography start new conversations about the past, present and future of home-working? Can it help to challenge the inequalities which continue to hold women back in 21st century Britain?
The creators of ‘These Four Walls’, photographer Leonora Saunders and historian Dr Helen McCarthy, will be in conversation on the subject of women working at home.
A chance to view the exhibition with a glass of wine will follow the talk. Wine will be served to over 18s only – please bring ID.
