THE EMERGENCE OF THE NORTH IN BRITISH FILMS 1961-3

Saturday 19 October: 11:00am - 12:00pm

Faculty of History, Room 5, West Road, CB3 9EF

For many years the North on film was the home of likeable comic characters like George Formby or likeable musical stars like Gracie Fields and George Formby, but after Saturday Night & Sunday Morning and the startling success of Coronation Street which both appeared for the first time in 1960, the cinemas were suddenly filled with three dimensional stories set in the North from A Taste of Honey to This Sporting Life.
