GOD IS DEAD? AN INTRODUCTION TO PHILOSOPHY OF RELIGION

Thursday 17 October: 6:00pm - 7:00pm

St Edward King and Martyr Church, Peas Hill , CB2 3PP

For many of us, religion is about blind faith. But for philosophers of religion, faith can be debated using actual arguments. This lively talk by JD Lyonhart surveys such ‘rational’ arguments for and against the existence of God, inquiring if God is really dead or not.

The modern specter of gas, gulags and ghettos left us questioning the plans of gods and men, transitioning into a postmodern age that rejected many of the traditional assumptions of what had gone before. Yet the last thirty years has somehow seen a resurgence in philosophy of religion, with some of the greatest living philosophers—such as Charles Taylor and Alvin Plantinga—dedicating themselves to the question of God. Is this a hint of a resurrection to come, or the last gasp of an ancient and dying institution? Bring your devotion and your grievances, and come on out for an evening of faith, doubt and questioning.
