Thursday 18 October: 6:00pm - 8:00pm

The Auditorium, Mary Allen Building, Homerton College, Hills Road, CB2 8PH

PEDAL, the Faculty of Education’s centre for research on play in education, development and learning, hosts a panel discussion entitled 'Play at the Extremes’. We engage parents, carers and teachers in a topical discussion about whether children are kept too safe, if parents and schools are too risk averse, and whether adventurous and independent play opportunities can provide unique developmental, social and emotional benefits. We invite you to join the conversation on the changing nature of childhood… are we really heading from 'free range' to 'hot house' for our kids?

Chaired by one of PEDAL’s lead researchers, Dr Jenny Gibson, the panel comprises:

Steve Mitchell (Parkour UK);
Kathryn Lester (University of Sussex – research on anxiety in children);
Nicola Butler (Chair of Play England’s Board of Trustees and Director of Hackney Play Association – managing Homerton Grove Adventure Playground);
Tim Gill (researcher, writer and consultant on childhood)
