VICTORIAN BRITAIN’S FAVOURITE BOOK: THE MANY CHANGING FACES OF VICTORIAN BIBLES

Saturday 19 October: 12:00pm - 12:45pm

Faculty of English, GR05, 9 West Road, CB3 9DP

This talk by Lucy Sixsmith will introduce the quirkiest of Victorian bibles and the most unexpected habits of Victorian Bible-readers. It will also explore the history of the Bible societies, and individuals, who produced and distributed more bibles around the world in this period than anyone ever had before. This talk will be a fun book-historical approach to some wonderfully earnest and satisfyingly eccentric readers and reading communities, of interest to 21st-century Bible-readers and anyone who is curious about Victorian history and how people use the books they really care about.
